The Washington, DC Chapter, South Carolina State University National Alumni Association annually awards scholarships to students. The current amount of each scholarship is $4,000.00 a year ($2,000 per semester). Scholarships may be available for four (4) years, providing recipients remain in good behavioral standing and meet academic requirements. Recipients are expected to communicate and respond to committee requests for information.
Completed applications along with the following must be submitted electronically no later than June 7.
- Please write an autobiographical essay that provides insight into who you are. Include your career goals, academic and personal interests, work or volunteer experience, and hobbies. Additionally, explain why you have chosen to attend South Carolina State University and how this choice aligns with your future plans. Be sure to share any personal experiences or challenges that have shaped your goals and influenced your decision to pursue higher education. This is your opportunity to help the scholarship committee understand your background, motivation, and aspirations. Responses should use Times New Roman, 12 point font, double-spaced, and between 250–350 words.
- Please describe any financial challenges or circumstances that have impacted you or your family. Include details about any significant expenses, changes in income, or other factors that contribute to your financial need. In addition, explain any family responsibilities you have, such as caring for siblings, contributing to household income, or helping to support family members. Finally, share how receiving this scholarship would impact your future and how you plan to “pay it forward” — whether by supporting others, giving back to your community, or making a difference in your chosen field. Be as specific as possible to help us understand your unique situation. Responses should use Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced, and between 250–350 words.
- Two (2) signed letters of recommendation – one from a teacher and one from a non-family member.
- An official school transcript that includes your GPA.
- A copy of your SAT or ACT scores.
- Copy of South Carolina State University acceptance letter.
