2025 Lew Berry Memorial Golf Tournament

The South Carolina State University National Alumni Association Washington DC Chapter is proud to host the thirteenth annual Lew Berry Memorial Golf Classic. Proceeds from the tournament will be awarded as scholarships to students matriculating at South Carolina State University from the Washington, DC Area.  The Washington, DC Alumni Chapter is a 501(c) (3), nonprofit organization dedicated to raising scholarship dollars for deserving students and making a difference in their lives. The Alumni Chapter is currently composed of more than 300 members who proudly serve more than 500 youth each year through various community projects.

From our tournaments, we have maintained an annual scholarship budget of $30,000. We raise $30,000+ a year and average $4,000 per student from the DC, Maryland, Virginia area. In total we have given over $150,000 to students from this area.  Our most recent tournament had over 100 golfers participating.

The tournament is a dedication to the life and memory of Lewis A. Berry.  He made countless financial contributions to SCSU to assist needy and deserving students. In 1991, he established the Berry Family Scholarship with the SCSU Foundation to provide emergency funds to students who have exhausted all financial aid sources and demonstrate unmet need. In 2006 he was inducted into the university’s prestigious Miller Society (membership requires lifetime donations of at least $100,000). In 2014, he was recognized as the alumnus making the largest donation to the University. Because of his philanthropy, SCSU established the Lewis A. Berry Alumni Philanthropic Award.
