Scholarship CommitteeAs a result of increased enrollment of students at South Carolina State University from the Washington, DC metropolitan area, the Washington, DC Alumni Chapter has launched an effort to give priority consideration for financial scholarships to students attending the University from the Washington, DC area who meet all eligibility requirements.These scholarships will be approximately $2000 per year per student. The selection criteria for these scholarships will be based on academic achievement and financial need. The scholarships may be available for a period of four (4) years, providing the recipients remain in good standing with the University and meet the required academic standards - a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on the 4.0 point system. For students whose academic program requires additional semesters, a petition can be submitted requesting extension of the scholarship. To apply for these scholarships, each applicant is required to return a completed application, together with: An essay describing career goal(s) and reasons for wanting to attend South Carolina State University. Do not exceed 300 words. 1. Two letters of recommendation - one from a high school teacher. One letter must be from a non-family member. 2. An official school transcript. Applicants will be notified of award status by the first week of May of the year. Scholarship recipients will have the award credited to their University account upon enrollment at the University. All information should be received by the second Monday of April of the year in order to be considered for the fall semester of that year.
